Jennifer is married to Richard Donald and is the mother of Ruth (16) and Sophie (13). District 14 continues to be a great place to live – Jennifer is eager to build on the district’s strengths.

  • An urban and rural planner, trained at the Technical University of Nova Scotia
  • Born and raised in Halifax, Jennifer has lived in different parts of Canada and in other parts of the world. This experience gives her unique insights in to the wonderful assets and strengths of Halifax Regional Municipality and the opportunities that other communities have to share with us as we grow and develop.
    Over the past 15 years Jennifer has volunteered in her community with children, youth and adults. Jennifer has experience in supporting public schools, recreation activities and family programs. She continues to be committed to compassionate, caring communities that foster respect, healthy lifestyles, and concern for others.
    Her volunteer work has included:
  • Co-organizer of a Parent and Tot group at St. John's United Church
  • Co-President, Ecole Beaufort PTA
  • Organizer, Girls Minor Hockey Team
  • Coach, Children's Summer Soccer League
  • Youth Run Volunteer, Bluenose Marathon
  • Weekly Volunteer, Oxford School Breakfast Program
  • Social Justice and Peace Advocate in Church Community
  • Jennifer's work experience includes working on municipal planning projects, with community groups and as a researcher. Her recent work includes:
  • Planning consultant on municipal issues including the development of wind turbine bylaws and watershed planning
  • Working for the United Church of Canada and the Tatamagouche Centre in educational resource development, leadership development and strategic planning, with a focus on social justice and peace issues
  • Research Project Coordinator for Seniors' Prescription Drug Use Project, Nova Scotia Centre on Aging, Mount Saint Vincent University
  • Her previous work experience has resulted in an appreciation of significant contributions made by, and the challenges faced by, immigrants to our communities. She has also seen firsthand the effects of poverty and lack of safe, affordable housing in the community at large.
